What to watch on TV tonight: Sunday
DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.
Alan Shearer: Dementia, Football And Me (BBC One, 10.30pm)
Ten years after retirement, Alan Shearer still has the second-highest number of headed goals in the Premier League. With 46, he’s only behind Peter Crouch who has 51. Now he’s wondering what impact the trauma of countless footballs hitting his head may have caused.
He began to question whether or not this could have resulted in brain damage after watching the film Concussion, which shows the impact that repeated head injuries have had on NFL players. Shearer examines the potential link between football and dementia with the help of British researchers by examining scientific evidence.
Howards End (BBC One, 9pm)
A new period drama based on EM Forseter’s novel about three English families at the beginning of the 20th century. It’s tipped to be the Downton Abbey replacement that people have been looking for since 2015.
Shetland (RTÉ 2, 9.30pm)
The final episode sees Magnus taken in by Jimmy Perez for further questioning after seven-year-old Catriona’s body is discovered after two decades. When Catriona’s brother reveals she had a secret hiding place at their old home, where Catherine also lived, Perez finally feels hopeful that he’s going to get to the bottom of things.
